Finish the Job is a grass roots effort to place all of Mississippi's Katrina Survivors in safe, secure housing and to help them rebuild their homes and lives.
Our mission is two-fold:
(1) To raise money for ongoing Hurricane Katrina recovery in Mississippi; and
(2)
To oversee the use of such funds for survivors who lack the means to replace what they lost - homes and basic furniture.
Recovery money from national relief agencies for Katrina survivors is running low.
Two years after the worst natural disaster in this nation's recorded history, there are
still tens of thousands of Mississippi families living in cramped travel trailers or unsafe
storm-damaged homes.
Long term recovery organizations are coming together to Finish the Job. We are
putting priority on helping those with the greatest needs - low to moderate income
elderly and disabled people and single parent families. Despite our best efforts, there
is a backlog! Thousands of people are still waiting for help.
Finish the Job is a fund of the Gulf Coast Community Foundation (GCCF) and will be managing the donated funds. Gulf Coast Community Foundation is an established 501(c)3.
Long term recovery committees and disaster recovery organizations throughout Mississippi are partnering with GCCF to Finish the Job. They apply case management standards to:
* determine clients' unmet needs,
* put a priority on those who are least able to recover from Katrina on their own, and
* find the resources to help in recovery.
